HSS specializes in soil sampling, yield mapping, and variable rate seeding and fertilizer prescriptions
Call us to discuss your goals. We’ll bring our years of experience and best practices to work for you. Ultimately, we are here to help you be a more efficient/more profitable producer through data collection and processing.
After we’ve created a plan that’s best for you, we’ll be out to pull samples. The 30 yard radius grid sample, which contains 8 – 10 cores is then mixed to represent one sample for that grid point. See how it’s done here.
After the samples have been collected, a nutrient analysis is performed. We primarily use Midwest Labs, Servi-Tech, and Ward Labs, but we’ll send samples elsewhere upon request. Our two most popular tests are Basic Soil Test and Basic Soil Test S, & Zn.
After the soil has been tested, we analyze the results through our software. This process allows us to make the best recommendations possible to help you get the yields you want.
We get back in touch with you to go over the findings in the report (which is included in our package) and discuss the results of the analysis and computer processing. This meeting allows us to formulate our strategy for helping your soil.
Our services are delivered by our team with years of experience and are passionate about helping you become more efficient.
Grid sampling enables you to place your fertilizer where needed rather than uniformly across the entire field. Through accurate fertilizer placement, you increase the odds of seeing a yield response to applied fertilizer. Almost all fields have a great amount of variability in fertility. This variability often means the difference between being nutrient rich and nutrient poor in different portions of the field. There are many factors that could be affecting these nutrient levels such as field elevation, soil type, and previous management practices. Grid sampling will allow us to identify these areas and treat them as needed.
If you are having pH issues in the field and intend on applying lime grid sampling is a must! There will likely be areas of the field that need multiple tons of lime as well as areas that won’t need any. For example if your composite soil sample comes back with a pH of 5.5 then it is highly likely that your pH actually varies from 5.0 or less up to 6.0 or more. Through grid sampling we are now able to identify and treat these areas as needed rather than putting on a straight 2 ton of lime across every acre like your composite sample would likely call for! More times than not by variable rating your lime based on your grid samples you will more than pay for the grid samples in lime savings alone, not to mention increase your yield potential by having the proper amount in the proper location.
HSS maps out the boundary of the field, takes random samples throughout the field, and marks each sample site using GPS. We then combine all of the cores mix them and bag them. Mapping the boundary enables us to get an accurate acreage for crop and insurance purposes
The typical soil sample that most of us are used to seeing.
HSS maps out the boundary of the field, takes random samples throughout the field, and marks each sample site using GPS.
We then combine all of the cores mix them and bag them. Mapping the boundary enables us to get an accurate acreage for crop and insurance purposes, and marking the sample sites allows us to come back to these locations time and time again ensuring that we are monitoring our field as accurately as we possibly can using this process. Site specific GPS sampling based off of varying zones throughout the field, such as soil type, or elevation.
Let’s assume we have a field with 3 different soil types 1, 2, & 3. HSS will then pull random cores throughout each individual zone and combine them accordingly ;ending up with 3 samples. One sample representing each zone!
This process allows you adjust your fertility rates and decisions based upon the analysis received from each individual zone.
At Heartland Soil Services, we not only utilize a robust technological ecosystem, we bring a team of experts in the field. All end results are based on your decisions, we are just here to help implement what you are wanting to do in an unbiased manner. We have no intentions of replacing or interfering with any consultants that you may currently be using, actually we feel that through our services we are enabling them to provide an even better result!
Professional & Outstanding ideas of our passionate team makes us unique in every sense.
